# Retool

> Retool is a development platform for building internal software. It is used by software engineers, operations teams, and business teams at companies that need custom internal tools — such as admin panels, dashboards, workflows, and data management apps — without building everything from scratch.

Retool connects to databases, APIs, and services (100+ integrations). Builders can create apps using a visual drag-and-drop editor, AI-assisted generation, or custom code (JavaScript and Python). Apps built in Retool include access controls, audit logs, and SSO by default. Retool runs in the cloud or can be self-hosted for companies with strict data or compliance requirements.
