ABOUT RETOOL
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software for critical operations like tracking performance metrics, handling customer support workflows, building admin dashboards, and countless other processes you might not have even thought of. But most companies don't have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.
At Retool, we’re building the first enterprise AppGen platform: software that transforms natural language into production-ready code, integrates directly with business data, and meets the highest standards of security and governance. AI is redefining what it means to build software—and who gets to build it. The definition of “developer” now includes analysts, operators, and domain experts creating solutions directly. As the pool of builders widens, so does the complexity of what they need to build. The opportunity is enormous, but so is the challenge of enabling this larger community to build production-grade software safely. That means AI that understands real business data, enforces enterprise policies automatically, and empowers teams to create once and reuse everywhere with shared, trusted components.
Over 100 million hours of work has been automated by developers and domain experts using our platform, freeing them to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic initiatives that drive real business value. The people closest to knowing what needs to be built can now safely create custom solutions within enterprise guardrails. And that's a mission worth striving for.
Let's build the future together!

WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU:
Our sales engineering team is critical to Retool. Sales Engineers drive revenue by closely partnering with potential customers and ensuring their success with Retool.
Much of the Retool sales process is technical, helping potential customers understand how to build apps and workflows with Retool, deploy on their infrastructure, and connect to critical resources. Building successful relationships with our customers is a key component of this role and you’ll leverage your technical background to dive in.
Our revenue and business goals this year are aggressive, and we need the right team to help turn prospects into happy Retool customers and expand our footprint in existing accounts.
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You’ll join our highly collaborative team of Commercial Sales Engineers, acting as the technical linchpin for our Growth and Mid-Market segments (companies scaling from 1 to 2,500 employees). You will partner tightly with Account Executives to win net-new logos, while simultaneously working alongside Account Management to drive strategic expansion within our existing customer base.
Beyond the sales organization, you’ll work cross-functionally with Go-To-Market leadership, Marketing, Engineering, and Product. You’ll be joining a broader team of Retools who are deeply curious, passionate about serving our customers, and excited to shape the future of how enterprise software is built. If you love translating technical complexity into business value, we’d love to hear from you!
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Drive Net-New and Expansion Revenue: Partner with prospective and existing customers to deeply understand their business goals, technical stack, and operational workflows. You will spearhead technical evaluations for net-new logos and continuously uncover opportunities for expansion (e.g., net-new use cases, expanding to new departments, and positioning additional product lines).
  • Translate Technical Requirements into Value: Apply structured sales methodologies (like MEDDPICC or Command of the Message) alongside AEs to ensure technical wins are directly tied to measurable business impact and executive-level ROI.
  • Solution and Architect: Lead discovery sessions, whiteboard architectures, and guide customers on best practices for modern web development.
  • Rapidly Prototype & Iterate: Build and present custom apps and integrations. You will help developers, analysts, and domain experts quickly iterate on logic and code, ensuring their solutions meet enterprise-grade security and governance standards.
  • Scale the GTM Engine: Develop reusable technical assets (sample apps, documentation, videos) to scale learnings across the team, and act as the voice of the customer to Product and Engineering to remove blockers and shape the product roadmap.
THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:
  • Presales Experience: 2–4 years in a closing technical presales role, ideally navigating both net-new business development and complex land-and-expand motions.
  • Insatiable Curiosity & Problem Solving: You have a deep love for solutioning. You don't just answer technical questions; you dig into the "why" behind them, thriving in ambiguous situations where you get to build creative solutions.
  • Modern Technical Chops: You are an enthusiastic technical generalist with a strong foundation in SQL, APIs, and modern JavaScript. Hands-on experience with React or similar modern front-end frameworks is a nice to have.
  • Forward-Looking Development: Familiarity with modern software development lifecycles, and an eagerness to embrace next-generation, AI-assisted development workflows and rapid code iteration. Experience with containerized software is a plus.
  • Value-Based Selling: Strong sales acumen with the proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value for both individual contributors and C-level executives.
  • Methodology Trained: Practical experience and formal training in enterprise sales frameworks (such as MEDDPICC or Command of the Message) to drive consistent qualification, influence pricing strategy, and ensure end-to-end sales alignment.
