ABOUT RETOOL

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.

Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!

WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU:

We are seeking an Internal Communications Lead to design and drive the strategy that keeps Retool team members informed, connected, and inspired. This role will serve as a trusted partner to executives and leaders, ensuring our workforce is aligned with company goals and engaged in our culture. You’ll oversee company-wide messaging, lead internal channels and events, and manage communication through periods of growth and change.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role — you’ll set direction for internal communications while also rolling up your sleeves to write, edit, and deliver impactful content that resonates with employees at every level.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will join a dynamic, growing People team that aspires to serve our amazing employees.  You’ll be working directly with members of the executive team, as well as team members from all levels across the organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Strategic Communications
    • Build and execute the internal communications strategy to support business objectives and cultural priorities.
    • Partner with senior leadership to ensure clear, consistent, and transparent messaging across the organization.
    • Align communications with company mission, values, and tone of voice.
  • Leadership Support
    • Develop messaging and content for leaders when necessary (announcement emails, presentations, all-hands).
    • Coach leaders on effective communication approaches that build trust and engagement.
    • Ensure leadership visibility across all teams and locations.
  • Employee Engagement & Culture
    • Drive communications that strengthen culture, recognition, and belonging.
    • Create campaigns and storytelling initiatives that showcase employee voices and highlight team impact.
    • Have an ear to the ground to deeply understand employee sentiment via strong partnerships, active listening, and structured tools such as engagement surveys.
  • Channels & Content
    • Own internal communication channels (intranet, newsletters, Slack, video updates, town halls).
    • Maintain editorial calendars and ensure high-quality, timely delivery of content.
    • Experiment with new formats and tools to meet employees where they are.
  • Change & Crisis Communications
    • Lead communications during key organizational changes.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor in managing sensitive announcements.
    • Help employees navigate change with clarity and empathy.

THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:

  • 7+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related fields.
  • Experience in tech, SaaS, or other dynamic industries.
  • Proven track record of leading communications strategies in high-growth or complex organizations.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across a variety of formats.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders, while being accessible and relatable to people of all levels in the company.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in change management and crisis communication.
  • Skilled in event design and execution (e.g., all-hands, leadership offsites).
  • Knowledge of employer brand and how it connects to internal communications.
